Pilates on Talma Road…

Effra-ites seem particularly interested in exploring the relationship between body and mind. One of our first stories was about the Brixton yogathon; we’ve just posted details of our very own yoga studio in Mervan Road as well as writing about details of Tai Chi and even Flamenco dancing on our doorstep.

So it was no surprise to hear that there are now pilates classes taking place at the Brixton Community Base on Talma Road – on Wednesdays from 7-8pm.

The sessions are run by Rachel Phillips who had been a ballet dancer for 15 years but when she found her career curtailed by injury found pilates was the perfect relaxation cure to office based work.

She says: “the classes will take a holistic and relaxed approach to a traditionally very structured discipline, fusing the principles of Joseph H. Pilates with a range of Ballet exercises for core strength building, improved mobilisation and flexibility.”
